Dr. Dmitry Lajus
Dmitry has worked with ForSeas Solutions since 2017 as an Expert Fisheries Consultant, exclusively performing Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) pre-assessments, focusing on Pacific Salmon, Alaska Pollock, Pacific Cod, and Pacific Flatfish in the Russian Far East.With extensive expertise as an MSC consultant across multiple organizations, Dmitry has conducted 28 MSC Fisheries pre-assessments and 17 full assessments across Russia, the EU, and Central Asia, and led 9 Chain of Custody audits for Pacific salmon processing plants and vessels in Kamchatka, Russia. His collaborations include working with organizations such as MRAG Americas, Wildlife World Fund, and Wild Salmon Center. While his pre-assessment record with ForSea Solutions is notable, he has also performed pre-assessments with other companies. Dr. Lajus specializes in population biology of marine fish and invertebrates, population phenogenetics, stress assessment in marine environments, the history of fisheries, historical ecology, and population dynamics. Currently affiliated with the Estonian Marine Institute, University of Tartu, Dmitry previously served as an Associate Professor at Russia’s St. Petersburg State University for two decades. His academic contributions include a wide array of peer-reviewed publications, including MSC assessments. In 2006, Dmitry was honored with the Fulbright Fellowship at the University of New Hampshire, USA. He holds a Master of Science degree from St. Petersburg State University and obtained his Ph.D. from the Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences. He is fluent in English and Russian.
